Finn Bálor makes his way to the ring. A “thank you, Finn” chant breaks out. Bálor says he says the fans deserved to be thanked as well. Bálor wants to address the elephant in the room- Samoa Joe is now the NXT champion. Bálor and Joe have been at this for a long time and up until NXT Lowell Bálor has always come out on top. Before Bálor can continue, Elias Samson comes out and sings a song about Bálor.
As Samson sings Bálor looks extremely annoyed. Samson stands behind Bálor and says, “you aren’t nothing without that title!” Bálor Pelé kicks Samson. Samson rolls out of the ring. Bálor takes Samson’s guitar and tosses it at him.
Backstage Bálor says he wants to kick Samson’s ass.
Finn Bálor vs Elias Samson
Standing switch by Bálor into a pin attempt for a two. Bálor whips Samson into the ropes, but telegraphs a back body drop. Samson goes for a sunset flip, but Bálor rolls through and kicks Samson in the face. After a commercial break Samson is stomping Bálor in the middle of the ring. After two leaping elbow drops Samson goes for a pin but only gets a two count.
Snap suplex by Samson for another two count. Samson elbows Bálor in the face twice. Bálor responds with an elbow of his own that sends Samson tumbling to the mat. Bálor chops Samson from corner to corner. Samson gets dumped outside. Baseball slide by Bálor. Bálor gets on the apron and penalty kicks Samson in the face. Bálor hits the sling blade followed by the roaring dropkick into the corner. Bálor picks up Samson and obliterates him with the 1916. It’s over.
Winner: Finn Bálor
After the match, Bálor says he is possessed and wants his title back. He wants his rematch for the NXT title now. Samoa Joe comes out and they argue. Regal comes out and says Bálor will face Joe for the title at the next NXT Takeover. Bálor dives over the top and takes out Joe.
We see Samoa Joe make his way out. NXT Champion Finn Balor is out next as The Demon and he has a chainsaw.
They meet in the middle of the ring for a pop. Hamilton does formal ring introductions and Joe gets mostly boos. Balor raises the title and gets a pop. They wait in the corners as the bell rings and fans do dueling chants. Joe attacks and they go at it. Joe tosses Balor to the floor but he comes right back in and unloads. Joe tosses Balor back to the floor. He comes right back in and they go at it. Joe is already bleeding from the face. Balor tosses Joe to the floor and dives out.
Joe tosses Balor over the barrier and takes out a member of security doing so. Joe has blood all over him. Balor takes a few minutes recovering comes right out of the crowd and takes Joe down. They bring it back in the ring. The referee tries to tend to Joe’s cut but fans boo. Balor ignores it and goes right to work. They keep fighting and brawling while Joe pours blood. Joe unloads and drops Balor with an enziguri on the apron. Balor nails a big dive to the floor and sends Balor into the barrier. Fans go wild and chant “holy s–t” as Balor has Joe’s blood on him. Fans boo as the referee checks on Balor. Trainers are out checking on Joe now. Fans chant “let them fight” and then “bulls–t” as Joe takes Balor. They keep trying to check on Joe but he won’t let them. Fans boo. More trainers are out and they finally clean him up. Balor waits in the ring and fans aren’t happy.
Joe comes back in and they go at it. Joe levels Balor and the “Joe’s gonna kill you” chants start back up. Joe puts a knee to the back and keeps Balor grounded now. Joe ends up hitting a big kick for a 2 count. The referee stops the match and a trainer comes in to work on Joe’s cut again. Fans boo and chant “bulls–t” again. They chant “f–k PG” now. They go at it again and Joe drops Balor with an elbow. Joe with boots to the face in the corner now. Joe with the running boot in the corner. Joe takes Balor up but Balor fights him. Balor comes off the top but gets caught in an atomic drop. Joe with a big boot and big kicks. Joe with a knee drop for a close 2 count.
Balor ends up nailing a dropkick and they both go down. The trainer takes the opportunity to work on Joe’s cut again. Balor with running forearms and Joe finally goes down. Balor with a big chop in the corner, and another. Balor runs to another corner for another chop. Joe blocks the next with a kick. Joe goes up but Balor chops him and knocks him down to the floor. Balor with a dropkick through the ropes. Balor with the huge running kick to the jaw from the apron. Balor brings it back in and charges for a Sling Blade. Joe counters and catches him in a slam for a 2 count. Joe beats Balor down in the corner now as fans do more dueling chants. Balor blocks a running boot but misses a dropkick. Joe with a senton for a close 2 count. Joe goes for a powerbomb and nails it. Balor kicks at 2. Joe turns it into a Boston Crab in the middle of the ring. Joe turns it into a Crossface.
Balor breaks out and hits a double stomp. Balor with a Sling Blade and a dropkick into the corner. Joe goes down. Balor goes to the top but Joe nails him in the throat. Balor fights off a Musclebuster. Joe with an enziguri. Joe nails the Musclebuster but Balor kicks out just in time. Joe can’t believe it. Fans want one more. Joe runs into a forearm. Joe fights back with strikes. Balor fires back with some of his own. Joe with a big forearm. Balor with a pele kick and they’re both down again. Fans count along with the referee as they start to move. Balor gets up and yells. Balor with a Sling Blade and another dropkick into the corner. Balor goes up and nails the Coup de Grace. Balor goes for a Bloody Sunday but Joe applies the Coquina Clutch and tightens it. Balor counters and pushes himself out of the corner, dropping Joe and holding it for the pin.
Winner: Finn Bálor
After the bell, Joe sits up and can’t believe it. Joe gets to his feet as Balor is handed the title while he’s still down. Joe looks angry but leaves the ring without doing anything. Balor stands and has his hand raised by the referee as his music plays. We see the headbutt that cut Joe open in the first part of the match. Joe stops up the ramp and looks back at Balor. They stare each other down before Balor turns his attention back to the crowd and Joe makes his exit. “Takeover: Dallas” goes off the air with Balor holding the title high.
Samoa Joe def. Bull Dempsey
After being put to sleep at the hands of Samoa Joe last week, Bull Dempsey was out for payback against the submission specialist. However, there was no stopping Joe. As his NXT Championship showdown with Finn Bálor draws closer, Samoa Joe is only getting more furious. Dempsey came out swinging, but Samoa Joe swung harder. Joe took Dempsey’s best and walked through it, clobbering the 300-pounder with strikes of his own before locking on the Coquina Clutch to win by submission.
Joe had to be pried off of Dempsey by members of the NXT locker room, who were then demolished by the angry Samoan. Joe locked the Clutch on Bull again as NXT General Manager William Regal implored Joe to release the hold. The No. 1 Contender refused to let go, until Bálor rushed to the ring and began pummeling his top challenger.
There was no separating these two heated rivals, though officials and NXT Superstars tried. Bálor and Joe brawled throughout the arena, where no one was safe. Joe hurled the NXT Champion over the announcers’ table, taking out Corey Graves. Bálor brushed off the nasty fall and dove off the table onto Joe, unleashing a flurry of strikes that was answered in kind by the challenger. Officials finally pulled the two apart after the brawl spilled back into the ring, leaving the NXT Universe wondering if Dallas is big enough to contain the carnage these two will create at TakeOver.
NXT Champion Finn Bálor def. Rich Swann (Non-Title Match)
NXT newcomer Rich Swann may have been in the mood for dancing as he made his way to the ring, but NXT Champion Finn Bálor was laser-focused on preparing for his rematch with Samoa Joe at TakeOver: Dallas. Bálor was aggressive from the get-go, taking Swann down to the canvas within seconds. The newcomer tried to escape the NXT Champion’s grasp, but Bálor would not let go.
Swann finally slipped out of Bálor’s clutches and stunned the champion with a hurricanrana, but Bálor cut the highflyer off before he could take to the air. The NXT Champion continued to unleash his rage on Swann before connecting with the Coup de Grace. Bálor was not finished, putting an exclamation point on his victory by spiking Swann on his head with a devastating DDT. Bálor showed a new side of himself this week, but will it be enough to put Samoa Joe away in nine days at TakeOver: Dallas?
The fans chant ‘This is awesome’ before the two even lock up. Balor and Neville feel each other out in the opening stages but Balor eventually gets his opponent down to the mat. Neville gets back up and hits a hiptoss , performs a cartwheel and then a dropkick. Lots of very cool flips in the early parts of this match, and Balor gets his own back for the dropkick earlier with one of his own. Snap suplex from Neville for a kickout. Neville throws Balor into the corner, forcing him to fall over as we head to a break.
Neville still has the upperhand when we get back and has Balor in a sleeper hold. Balor nearly fights out but is taken back down by a clothesline. Neville has Balor in the corner, and when ‘the man that gravity forgot’ goes to run at the NXT Champion, Balor forces Neville over the top rope and onto the outside. He gets back in at the count of 8 and the two now find themselves both outside of the ring. Neville is standing on the apron and jumps off the middle rope, backwards, onto Balor.
They’re both back in the ring and Neville is controlling the match. Balor forces his way back in with a series of kicks and slaps and then gives The Geordie a Pele kick. Balor throws Neville from one corner to another, giving him a chop to the chest in each corner. Neville is now on the outside again, and Balor hits a dropkick through the ropes before running along the apron with a kick to the head. Balor goes for Bloody Sunday but Neville reverses and ends up hitting a German Suplex. He gets another German resulting in a 2 count.
Neville goes for the top rope looking for the Red Arrow but Balor gets up to stop. Neville knocks him back down with a kick to the head and goes looking for it again, but Balor denies him again with a kick to the head that knocks him out of the ring. Balor dives over the top of the ropes and onto Neville. He throws him back in the ring, looking for Coup de Grace but Neville stops him. The two are now both on the top rope and Neville hits a hurricarana from there. He looks for his finisher again but Balor rolls out the way. Neville lands on his feet but runs into a swingblade. Neville nearly steals the match with a pin out of no where for a 2 count. Balor hits a massive clothesline, a dropkick, then the Coup de Grace and finally Bloody Sunday for the victory.
Backstage Finn Bálor says Crews will not have to wonder any longer. What would have happened when they first faced off will happen tonight.
Finn Bálor vs Apollo Crews
Bálor and Crews spends the first minute or so feeling each other out. Bálor ends up with a side headlock on Crews. Crews tries to get some separation by hitting the ropes, but Bálor holds on to the headlock. Crews stands up and almost suplexes Bálor, but Bálor rolls through and headlock takeovers (pun intended) Crews. Bálor has successfully grounded Crews to this point, which is an excellent strategy.
After a short break Bálor rolls through a Crews’ sunset flip attempt and drop kicks him right in the face. Bálor immediately slaps on an arm bar. Bálor seems to be targeting Crews’ head and shoulder area. Bálor penalty kicks Crews for another two count. That was a vicious strike. The match could have been over after a move like that on a lesser opponent.
Crews surprises Bálor with a clothesline out of the corner. Bálor tries to avoid the charging Crews by going to the outside. Crews moonsaults off the apron, but Bálor moves out of the way. Bálor dives over the top onto Crews. Crews gets back in the ring but Bálor goes up top and hits the diving double foot stomp to the back of Crews’ head. Crews somehow manages to kick out. Bálor charges Crews but runs right into a Samoan drop. Crews misses the high enzguri and Bálor sling blades him. Bálor eats a big boot by Crews. Crews gorilla press slams Bálor and the standing moonsault for a long two count.
Crews tries the tossing powerbomb, but Bálor flips out of it. Bálor sling blades Crews again, followed by the bullet drop kick into the corner. Bálor goes up top and destroys Crews with the Coup de gras. Crews is already stirring on the mat. Bálor picks up Crews and obliterates him with the bloody Sunday. That’s all she wrote.
While you might know him as Prince Devitt, “The Real Rock ‘n’ Rolla” or “The Real Shooter”, one thing’s for sure: Finn Bálor will offer the WWE Universe something they’ve never seen before. Born and raised in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland; Finn is not your average WWE superstar as he brings the wrestling experience of a man who competed in places like Mexico, the UK and Japan. He might not be the “Prince” anymore, but that won’t stop Finn Bálor from claiming his throne in the WWE as the resident Demon King on the SmackDown brand.
