No Mercy Preview: Finn Bálor vs. Bray Wyatt

Though Bray Wyatt failed to defeat Finn Bálor at SummerSlam, The New Face of Fear has found a way to put The Demon to rest, as his Irish adversary will step into the darkness without the help of his alter-ego in a highly anticipated SummerSlam rematch on Sunday, Sept. 24, at WWE No Mercy.

Wyatt initially set this rivalry ablaze when he delivered an eerie warning to Bálor back in July, leading to numerous encounters between the two increasingly hostile adversaries. In the past, Wyatt has shown a distinct ability to get inside the heads of his foes, but at SummerSlam, Bálor’s Demon persona proved to be the equalizer.

However, on the Aug. 28 episode of Raw, Wyatt appeared out of the darkness to throw Bálor over the top rope during a Battle Royal to determine who would challenge Miz for the Intercontinental Title, costing the Irishman a potential championship opportunity.

Hell-bent on putting an end to his war with Wyatt, the first-ever Universal Champion called out The Eater of Worlds the following week on Raw. The Man of 1,000 Truths was happy to oblige his foe in a fight, but he made it clear it had to be man-to-man.

Can Bálor defeat Wyatt in a man-to-man showdown? Or, was it The Demon who was the only one capable of toppling The Eater of Worlds, as Wyatt suggests?

See who wins this epic war when Finn Bálor and Bray Wyatt face off in a huge rematch at WWE No Mercy on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 8 ET/4 PT, streaming live on the award-winning WWE Network.

Balor tells Omaha that this is Balor Club. Finn says the NXT Championship used to look real good around his waist. The Universal Title used to look real good around that waist. The Intercontinental Title would have looked good around this waist if it weren’t for Bray Wyatt. When Bray appeared in the battle royal, it cost him the opportunity to challenge the Miz. While he may have been victorious at SummerSlam, you don’t truly beat someone like Bray Wyatt. They appear when you least expect him. The next time you appear, he will be ready.

Balor says he has chosen his fate and he is not afraid. Finn says he does not run from his demons because sometimes, he becomes one. If you want to continue to play games week after week, let’s play.

The lights go out and Bray appears on the TitanTron. Bray says he remembers going fishing when he was young. Bray says after a while, he got bored and it just became too easy. Bray says he decided he wanted to shake things up and he put his weapon down and he started to use his hands, just his hands. His hands became judge, jury, and executioner. Bray says he showed no mercy. When he had the chance to end that pathetic existence, he made the choice and that choice defined him. Bray says he knew what his purpose was. You were victorious at SummerSlam. The Demon won. That is your bow and arrow. Bray wants Finn to face him man to man and show him no mercy. Bray tells Finn to define your legacy. Bray tells Finn to make a choice.

Finn says he has made his choice and he is Finn Balor.

Bray says there he is, the confident hero they all dream of becoming. The question remains, can a mere mortal topple a god or will you just be like the others, running around like a scared rabbit. He tells Finn to run. We go to commercial.

The show opens with Miz, Maryse, and the Miztourage of Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel in the ring.

Miz begins to speak and is immediately cut off by Raw GM Kurt Angle making his entrance. He thinks he knows what Miz is going to say, and his perception is that the status of the Intercontinental Championship has been diminished. It wasn’t defended at SummerSlam, but it will be at No Mercy, and his opponent–

The A-Lister cuts him off and continues where he left off, defining “respect” according to the dictionary and telling Kurt that he doesn’t understand what respect means. Understand that it’s a disrespect to him when he comes out and interrupts what he has to say, and a disrespect to the Intercontinental Championship.

Angle says he’s here to give the title the showcase it does deserve, and next week he’ll defend the title against the winner of a #1 contender’s battle royal that’s going to start right now!

Big Show’s in it, totally clean-shaven and terrifying. The Hardy Boyz come down, they’re in it as well. Finn Balor, too. The match will begin after the break.

15-Man WWE United States Championship #1 Contender’s Battle Royal

Curt Hawkins poses and immediately gets dumped by literally everyone else in the match. They then turn to Big Show, who’s game for them to try and proceeds to throw everybody off like the giant he is. The match breaks down into normal battle royal action from there, the Miztourage dumping Kalisto, Finn working the Drifter over in the corner as the Club and the Hardyz clash.

Show caving everybody’s chests in with overhand chops but Karl Anderson is looking to put him to sleep. The giant shrugs him off but Luke Gallows and Finn Balor assist him in dumping Big outside and eliminating him! The Club riding high together, baby! Elias and Balor into it with each other again, Matt Hardy looking to dump Jeff Hardy at the same time as the Miztourage dump R-Truth and eliminate him!

Goldust nearly eliminates Jordan, Axel and Dallas have Balor of the ropes and the Drifter comes to help but Balor stays in there. Again Elias goes after Finn but Goldust of all people makes the save and drops him with a snap scoop powerslam. Anderson with the inverted Gun Stun, Big Hoot with the slicing right and a low bridge eliminates Goldust to send us to break.

Back from commercial, the battle royal rages on,Jordan trying to eliminate the Drifter while the Hardyz and the Club fight it out and the Miztourage tries to dump Finn. Gallows blocks a Twist of Fate but gets low bridged and eliminated! Anderson thinks he’s got Matt dumped but Hardy lands on the apron and pulls him out with him!

Slugging it out on the apron, Twist of Fate denied but Matt puts Anderson into the ringpost and eliminates him! Luke eliminates Matt in return and the Club put the boots to him. With the referees distracted, Miz saves Bo! The Miztourage in it with Jason, Finn heads to the apron for a moment to clock Axel, picking up a head of steam before taking it to Elias and nearly eliminating him with a gamengiri!

Balor taking all comers, shotgun dropkick on Bo, Sling Blade on Jordan, a face off with Jeff Hardy but he starts rolling in return, Manhattan Drop to the basement dropkick, Twist of Fate denied and Finn plants him with a Sling Blade! Shotgun dropkick puts Dallas in the corner, one for Brother Nero as well–

(Wyatt noise.)

Bray Wyatt eliminates Finn Balor!

(Wyatt noise.)

Miztourage arebeating on Jordan but he stacks ’em up for a shoulder block, overhead belly-to-belly suplexes for the Drifter and Jeff! Miztourage double team him but he evades them and dumps both of them! He dumps Elias too! Jeff comes from behind…

Jeff Hardy wins, last eliminating Jason Jordan over the top rope and becoming #1 contender to the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Trying to get him up for the suplex, Finn blocks, escapes with a back body drop, dropkick to the face gets some separation. Boots up in the corner, charging forearms into a basement dropkick, keeping Jordan off balance.

Charging chop, whip across for another, Balor dumps him outside, dropkick through the ropes and here comes the apron Penalty Kick! Bringing him back in the ring, Jordan blocks the Sling Blade and counters to a belly-to-belly suplex! Jason fired up, the straps are down, charging shoulder block sets up the back suplex neckbreaker but Balor counters to a crossbody for two!

Pele kick wipes both guys out, Finn looking to capitalize first but Jordan takes him corner to corner, slamming his back into the turnbuckles! Charging in, Balor connects with a boot and the Sling Blade works this time, shotgun dropkick, Finn repositions him and climbs…

Finn Balor wins by pinfall with Coup de Grace.

“The Demon” Finn Bálor vs. Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt is the first man to make his way to the ring for the next match, and there are a lot of fireflies in attendance at the Barclay’s Center as Wyatt makes his way to the ring.

The lights go out, and a creepy version of ‘He’s got the whole world in his hands’ begins playing before breaking into laughter and cutting off abruptly. The Demon is shown crawling from the back, and when he stands, Balor gets a gigantic pop from the crowd. Balor is in full demon mode, and the sight of the Barclay’s Center raising their arms along with Balor is a very impressive visual.

Wyatt is slow to make his way into the ring, looking hesitant to engage the Demon. The bell rings and Balor crawls in toward Wyatt. Balor heads out and runs around the ring, taking out Wyatt with a flying forearm to the face. Balor brings things back into the ring and he avoids a charging Wyatt in the corner. Balor snap mares Wyatt, kicks him in the spine, then hits a dropkick to the seated Wyatt. Wyatt kicks Balor away and sends him back to the floor, and Balor leaps over the top rope, wiping Wyatt out with a front flip senton. Balor immediately takes Bray back into the ring and he heads to the top, but Wyatt bails to the floor. Wyatt stuns Balor with a right hand to the face, and he suplexes Balor out to the floor to shift the momentum.

Wyatt beats on Balor, then sends him back into the ring. Bray takes Balor into the corner, and Balor tries to fight back, but Wyatt stops him with a knee to the gut before he takes him up into the corner and drives Balor’s chin into his shoulder. Wyatt goes right into a rear chin lock, grinding away on Finn. Balor is able to break out of the hold, and both men trade straikes. Wyatt sends Balor into the corner and he tries for Sister Abigail, but Balor avoids it, sends Bray to the mat, and hits a quick double stomp to Wyatt’s chest.

Balor catches a charging Wyatt with double boots in the corner before scoring with an overhead kick. Balor hits Wyatt with a couple of quick running forearms before he hits a running dropkick through the ropes and out to the floor. Balor stands on the apron and waits for Wyatt to stand, kicking him square in the face. Balor waits, then launches himself off the apron with a double stomp to the back of Wyatt’s head. Balor heads up to the top rope and he leaps over Bray. Bray tries for another Sister Abigail, but Finn counters out and hits a sling blade to put down Wyatt. Finn runs right into a big boot from Wyatt, and Wyatt follows up with a vicious urunage that’s good for a two count.

Wyatt hits the ropes and connects with a running senton for another two count. Wyatt yells out that he’s got him. Wyatt drags Balor into the corner and he pulls himself up, but Balor stops him with a kick to the side of the head. Balor takes Wyatt down with an elbow to the chest, and Bray goes back to the floor again. Balor follows and charges in with a huge dropkick to the chest that launches Wyatt into the barricade. Balor charges out of the corner into a gigantic clothesline from Wyatt that puts him down for a two count.

Wyatt spider walks toward Balor, and Balor stands up and scream, not intimidated. Balor connects with the sling blade, a dropkick, and the coup de grace, and this one is over with a three count.

Winner: Finn Bálor

After the match, Balor crawls over and stares at Wyatt before standing tall as his music hits. We get replays as Balor does his exit.
